National Science Day celebrated at CSIR Campus

Chennai: National Science Day, commemorating Sir C.V. Raman's discovery of the Raman Effect, was celebrated with vigor at the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) and CSIR Madras Complex (CMC) on February 28-29, 2024. Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director of CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director of CMC, chaired the celebration, with Prof. S.K. Bhattacharyya, Vice Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, Chennai, and Former Director of CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Anandavalli emphasized the significance of science and technology in Indian culture and the theme of National Science Day 2024, focusing on Indigenous Technology for Viksit Bharat. The inaugural Dr. N. Lakshmanan Memorial Science Quiz Competition, aimed at fostering scientific curiosity among Corporation of Chennai School students, engaged sixty-three participants from twenty-one schools. CHSS, Taramani clinched the first prize. Prof. Bhattacharyya delivered a lecture on "Global Problem – Indigenous Solution," emphasizing the importance of indigenous solutions in addressing global challenges, citing examples like the Bagri Market fire incident in Kolkata. Dr. Robert Sam extended gratitude in the closing remarks.
